We specialize in short and long term emergency preparedness.

The Portland Preparedness Center not only ships nationwide at highly competitive money-saving prices, but is also a bricks and mortar emergency and preparedness (prepper) supplies store.

Welcome to our web site. We offer a free newsletter to keep you up to date with current events and “how to” articles – and the Navigation bar shows you all the many categories that you can check out for bargain items and emergency preparedness essentials.

With over 20 years’ experience in the emergency supplies and preparedness field, we are confident that we can answer any questions you might have, from long term food storage, water filters (Berkey and Katadyn) to the best available underground shelters in the US. So don’t hesitate to call us at 503 252 2525 during store hours (Mon – Sat 10 – 6 Pacific Time) with questions, or phone orders.

We are located on the corner of 72nd and Glisan in Portland, Oregon (that’s 7202 NE Glisan if you need to feed that into your GPS at any time – or just take the Glisan St exit off Hwy 205, drive one mile West, and there we are).

Wikipedia says “Preparedness refers to the state of being prepared for specific or unpredictable events or situations.”basic preparedness book

The first question almost every new customer asks when they visit our retail store in Portland (yes, we are bricks and mortar too) is…”prepared for what?”

“What if,” is our reply.

“What if something as simple as a power outage occurs and lasts longer than you expect? If it’s winter, would you potentially be in an emergency survival situation?”

We then ask our customers – and we’re asking you right now – to consider your own situation.

What emergencies are you not prepared for – yet?

What survival supplies do you need?

Do you need MREs? (what are MRE’s? “Meals Ready To Eat” that’s what).

Do you need long term food storage? (We stock Mountain House and Alpine Aire freeze dried foods which last for years and retain their nutrition and taste).

Buckets of wheat? We have them ready to go. And the Country Living Grain mill too. ( to grind the wheat info flour )

Those are just some starter thoughts.

We can provide everything from food storage kits to emergency kits, medical kits, solar ovens, Berkey water filters, Katadyn water filters on through to superior Under Ground  or Underground Shelters – fully stocked if you wish.

When it comes to emergency preparedness at any level, we have the experience and the products to cover your survival preparedness needs.

Being prepared in advance is far better than being caught by surprise (an earthquake comes to mind) and wishing you had been wise enough to stock up on a 72-hour emergency kit (for example) which all emergency manamgement agencies, two former presidents, and Home Land Security recommend as a bare minimum.

no cook food unitWe say that should be just the start, because most emergencies last a lot longer than that, especially in these uncertain times we all live in.

That’s why we engaged consultants with decades of experience – more experience in fact than any other company on the ‘net. So we have the knowledge and experience to help you prepare for most any emergency that may come your way.

Where this hits you (very nicely) in the pocket book is something to consider – because our policy is to meet or beat any reasonable price – to make sure we stock the best and at the best prices – and to do everything we can to help you in your preparedness planning.

While we are physically located in the Greater Portland, Oregon Area, – at 7202 N E Glisan (corner Glisan and 72nd) we stand ready to assist all those in the United States and Canada with excellent mail order and UPS shipping services.

If you choose to subscribe to our free newsletter, which will keep you up to date with a range of news items about such things as climate change, earth changes, earthquakes, storm warnings and hurricane information – as well as regular tips and “how to’s” about the best ways to be prepared – and therefore safe and independent – you will ALSO get regular offers on certain products (our choice) at reduced prices..for subscribers only.

The newsletter is Free (did we mention that) – and as a subscriber, you’ll qualify for regular price reductions on certain items. No-one else does that as far as we know.

So please bookmark this page, and subscribe to the newsletter (form is at top right – all information kept confidential, never sold or shared) …and feel free to shop around here, or call us at our store (503 252 2525). We’re open 10 – 6 Pacific Time Mon – Sat – and we ship throughout the US and Canada. (Some restrictions apply to Canada, so call us and let’s talk).

Tigard, along with other Washington County jurisdictions, will be staging a mock bioterrorism emergency exercise on Thursday, May 23. During this emergency drill, the city will establish a point of dispensing (POD) station. PODs are large clinics, set up to rapidly distribute medication to a large number of people.
